knitting patterns to buy

For new PayPal users

the girl from auntie can only take credit card payments using PayPal. If you've never used PayPal before and need some help, here's a guide to how it works.

1. Use the shopping cart buttons on this website to place your order.

On the details page for each pattern, you'll see the price, plus two buttons: "add to cart" and "view cart". To add a pattern to your shopping cart, click on the "add to cart" button (highlighted in the picture below).

Once you've done this, a new window should open in your browser, which lists the contents of your shopping cart:

Sometimes this window opens underneath your current window; no matter. You can always view this window by clicking on the "view cart" button on the pattern details page.

When you view this window, you'll see the quantity, the item description, the price, and the total. You'll also see a button marked "secure checkout" underneath the list.

If you wish, you can add more patterns to your shopping cart by minimizing or closing the shopping cart listing, and using your original window showing the girl from auntie patterns. Again, use the "add to cart" buttons to add more patterns to your cart.

2. When you're done shopping, it's time to go to the checkout.

When you're done adding patterns to your cart, click the "view cart" button again to view your shopping cart listing. Now, click the "secure checkout" button underneath the shopping cart listing.

You'll be taken to the checkout screen at the PayPal site. It will give you the amount of the payment, and it will give you the option to sign in using your PayPal login.

Since you're new to PayPal and you don't have a PayPal login, you'll click on the "click here" button next to "if you do not currently have a PayPal account" (highlighted in the picture below).

3. Fill in your contact information and credit card details.

You'll be presented with a page containing a lot of fields to be filled in. When it's first presented to you, it looks something like this:

You'll see that you're first asked to choose a country. When you do, the page will refresh to make the form consistent with addresses in your country (for example, if you choose "Canada", the page will refresh itself so that the address fields are labelled with "province" instead of "state" and "postal code" instead of "zip code").

As you fill in your information, you'll also be asked to select a payment type (Visa, MasterCard, Switch, etc.). When you make that selection, the page will refresh again based on your choice. This is because each type of card has different verification or version data. For example, Visa uses a three digit verification code printed on the back of the card. Other cards have version numbers. The refreshed form will expect you to enter that information as well.

Note: this financial information is not seen by the girl from auntie. Because PayPal is collecting this information, your privacy is handled in accordance with PayPal's privacy policies.

The form also asks for your e-mail address, and you'll have to make up a password to go with it. Make sure you type in your e-mail address correctly! This is the e-mail address to which your receipts and pattern download instructions will be mailed.

There's also a security question at the end. You'll be asked to type in the letters and numbers you see in the picture. This is to verify that a real human is filling in the form.

When you're done, click on the "continue" button at the bottom of the form. PayPal will then verify that your credit card information is correct.

4. Make the payment.

You still haven't made the payment to the girl from auntie yet. You'll be presented with another screen entitled "make your payment", which provides the purchase information again, your shopping cart contents, and where the money is coming from (e.g., your credit card). Because the pattern prices are in United States Dollars, if you are located outside the U.S. you'll see the price you're going to pay in your own currency, with the PayPal exchange rate.

At the bottom of the page, you'll see a "pay" button (highlighted in the picture above). Click on that to make your payment.

You'll then see a page confirming your payment, entitled "you made a payment". At the bottom of the page, there's a button marked "continue" (highlighted in the picture below).

5. Download the pattern.

If you click on that "continue" button mentioned above, you'll automatically be taken to the download screen:

Follow the instructions exactly as you see on this page in order to download your pattern. Don't just left-click on the links you see on that page--if you do, you might see the pattern, but it won't be saved to your computer!

If, for some reason, you don't see the download screen automatically, check your e-mail:

You should have received three new messages: one from PayPal, because you just set up a new account; another one from PayPal, the receipt for your payment; and finally one from Payloadz, the download delivery service, with the download link for your patterns (this last e-mail will say "the girl from auntie" in the from: line).

If you don't see this Payloadz e-mail, wait a few minutes and check again, and also check your spam or junk mail folder. Because the e-mail contains coded links and comes from an unfamiliar e-mail address, some mail programs erroneously conclude it must be junk mail.

Open up this e-mail message, which begins with "hello there, knitter", read it through, and click on the download link in order to open up the download screen. Then, follow the instructions on the download screen to save the pattern to your computer.

And you're done! Except for the knitting, of course.
