knitting patterns to buy

How to order the girl from auntie patterns

As any obnoxious drunk on the subway will tell you, it's easy as knit 1, purl 2.

For fastest service - US currency only (credit cards accepted)

If you order and pay in US currency using PayPal, an online money transfer service, you can obtain your patterns by downloading them yourself.

  1. Simply click on the shopping cart buttons that you see on the site to add items to your basket.
  2. When you're ready to pay, click on "view cart" (if it's not already visible), then click on the checkout button in the cart window. You'll be connected with the PayPal website, where you can complete your transaction. Yes, this means you need to register with PayPal.
  3. Once you've paid via PayPal, an e-mail message will be sent to you automatically, with the instructions for downloading the pattern. The message containing the download link will be sent to the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account. If you paid by PayPal eCheck, then you will have to wait for your eCheck to clear before you will receive the download instructions by e-mail.
  4. Read the message, then left-click (Mac users, single-click) on the coded link in the e-mail to open up a webpage with the instructions for downloading your purchase(s). From that webpage, you can right-click (Mac users, option-click) on the links and you will start the download. Don't right-click (option-click) directly from the e-mail--that's not the link to the actual pattern!

If you're new to using PayPal and have never signed up to use it before, here's a tutorial on how to make a purchase from this site, and how to sign up with PayPal.

For slower service

If you don't mind paying electronically, but you'd rather have your patterns e-mailed to you rather than downloading them yourself (for whatever reason), or you don't want to pay in US currency, there are alternatives.

  1. If you want to pay by PayPal, but want to have the patterns you buy e-mailed to you, then e-mail for instructions. Please tell me what it is you want to buy, in what currency you wish to pay, and to which e-mail address you wish to have the patterns sent. We'll take it from there.
  2. If you don't want to pay by PayPal, and you bank online with one of the big five Canadian banks, you can send me an e-mail money transfer in Canadian funds. Your pattern will then be delivered by e-mail. This service requires a $10 CDN minimum transfer, so it's only useful if you're purchasing more than one pattern. You will incur a service charge of approximately $1.50 CDN, which will vary according to your bank. To use the e-mail money transfer, sign in to your bank's online service, and read the instructions for setting up a transfer, then e-mail me so that we can work out the payment amount and the security question.

For the slowest service of all

If you don't hold with that newfangled plastic or electronic stuff, you can pay by cheque or international money order (if you are in the US, check your money order carefully and ask the bank or USPS whether the money order can be redeemed in Canada). If my bank will cash it without hitting me with a service charge, I'll take it. I have the right to refuse payment if accepting the payment will incur a service charge at my bank. I may not be able to accept all currencies. Before sending me a payment in the mail (which you can't without my address, anyway), e-mail, advising me what it is you want to buy, how you want to pay and in what currency, and to which e-mail address you wish to have the patterns sent. We'll work it out from there.

Buying a pattern for a Secret Pal?

That's great! But if you want to make sure that your recipient has confusion-free support, I suggest that you take an extra step so that I know who the pattern "purchaser" really is.

If you purchase the pattern using the shopping cart and PayPal, the system automatically assumes that the gift-giver (the one who used the PayPal account, with your e-mail address) is the purchaser, so the transaction goes through in the gift-giver's name. This makes it confusing when someone else e-mails for technical or pattern help--fresh links, etc. are sent to the purchasing e-mail address, not your Secret Pal's e-mail address.

So, if you want to buy a PDF download for your Pal, please do one of the following:

  • As soon as you place the order and contrive to send the download instructions to your Secret Pal, please e-mail to let me know the transaction ID, and the name/e-mail of your Secret Pal recipient so that I know to expect support requests from this other person. I promise I won't divulge your identity.
  • Alternatively, don't use the shopping cart buttons on this site. Instead, please e-mail to request a Secret Pal transaction, identifying the pattern(s) and the recipient's name and e-mail address. I'll ask you to make a PayPal payment (but not through the shopping cart), and when the payment is received I'll send the download instructions to the recipient with a note saying that their Secret Pal bought the pattern(s) for him or her. This option presents a little bit of a delay, since it's human-executed rather than automated, but it saves you the hassle of having to transmit download information while preventing your Secret Pal from figuring out who you are!
