Summer funnel sleeveless top

This is a slim-fitting top knit in a cotton-linen blend ribbon yarn.  The stripe pattern is formed by single rows of purl against a background of stockinette in a Fibonacci sequence, which conveniently begins with a no-roll hem.

This is an easy pattern - the most difficult part is counting the rows.  The front and back are identical, and no finishing is required for the armholes or neck.

This sweater was designed for a slim fit on a 32" bust measurement.  Finished dimensions are: chest approx 32", hem approx 32", length about 17" (may stretch a bit with wear, depending on drape of the yarn).

Yarn:  Less than 500 meters of chunky weight yarn - probably more like 400 m (440 yards).  I used Katia Idea, a cotton-viscose-linen tape yarn.

Gauge:  About 4 sts and 5.5 rows to 1"

Needles:  5.5 mm, or whatever you need to get gauge.

Note: when a row is indicated as being worked in "st st", it should be knit so that the knit stitches are on the RS and the purl sts are on the WS.  A row indicated as "rev st st" should be knit so that the purl side is on the RS.

Back:  Cast on 64 sts.  Knit the following:

1 row st st
1 row rev st st
1 row st st
1 row rev st st
(in effect, this was 4 rows of garter)
2 rows st st
1 row rev st st
3 rows st st
1 row rev st st
1 row st st, decreasing 1 st ea side
4 rows st st
1 row rev st st
7 rows st st
1 row st st, decreasing 1 st ea side
1 row rev st st
6 rows st st
1 row st st, increasing 1 st ea side
6 rows st st
1 row rev st st
1 row st st, increasing 1 st ea side
7 rows st st
1 row st st, increasing 1 st ea side
7 rows st st
1 row st st, increasing 1 st ea side
4 rows st st
1 row rev st st
14 rows st st

Then continue with these rows shaping the armholes:

Continuing to work in st st and slipping the first st of every row,

Bind off 2 sts at beg next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st ea side every row 2 times.
Dec 1 st ea side every other row 3 times.
Work 10 rows even in st st.
1 row rev st st.
15 rows st st.
Bind off 2 sts at beg next 10 rows.
Bind off 1 st at beg next 2 rows.
Work even for 5 rows.

Bind off rem sts using a stretchy bindoff; for example, *work 2 sts as usual; then pass 1st st on right needle over 2nd st on right needle and drop off, like a normal bind off, but then return the st remaining on the right needle back to the left needle, and repeat from *... if you do not work a stretchy bindoff, then the neckline will probably not fit over the head.

Front:  Work as for Back.

Finishing: Block pieces and sew together at shoulders and side seams.
