YKW's hooker sister
What Not to Crochet.
The cape in the December 9 entry is the crochet version of the LB Homespun cape that was on the “fake” advertisement cover of Vogue Knitting (the issue that looked like it had a purple thing on the cover, when the real cover was that bulky orange thing).

I just got off the phone with customer service at Lion Brand Yarns. It appears that there were so many problems with the knit version, that the patterns comletely re-written to look more like the crochet version, without having updated the photo on the knit pattern. I am nearly finished knitting this piece with the updated pattern, and have only required 3 skeins of yarn, not the 5 that is listed on the patterns webpage. Unfortunately for me, I actually wanted to make the long cape that is pictured. Does anybody have a copy of the original Vogue pattern with all of the mistakes? I am hoping that I can combine the new and old patterns to get a longer version of the cape.
Hey, that’s right. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the crochet version uses double crochets (which strike me as “airier” than sc) and the knit version is mainly stockinette (with a garter border).
But still, that doesn’t make sense. According to the patterns, the crochet version has an area of more than 2000 square inches. The knit version is only 1300.
The knit version *was* “completely rewritten” because there were so many “changes”. Perhaps they didn’t get around to detecting/correcting errors in the crochet version?
Hmm, not nearly as snarky and mean as YKW. Clearly, the sister to YKW…but the much nicer one!
The Yarn Harlot is fond of saying that crochet requires 3 times as much yarn as knitting does. But I notice that the yarn requirements for this cape is 4 balls for the crochet version and 5 balls for the knit version. While the crochet version does appear to be slightly smaller, it doesn’t account for this difference.
