The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair might not be worth the $17 admission to some people, but it was far more worthy of its admission price than, say, the Creative Sewing and Needlework Festival.
(The one saving grace of CSNF this year was the fact that Habu Textiles had a teeny, tiny booth. Which reminds me–they said the sample book I ordered would be mailed this month.)
Having only attended the final day of the Fair, I missed just about all the competitions, except for Sheep to Shawl, which was still going, of course, by the time I left after lunch. It was very interesting seeing humans corralled inside an enclosure, facing rows of bleachers, as though they were heifers or sport horses. The competitors were carding, spinning, and weaving away, and there was to have been an auction of their products afterwards. This is apparently where the Sheep to Shawl competition results will be posted.
For the non-agri-inclined:
- Lots of free food samples.
- Perogies? Of course the concessions sold perogies. Where do you think this is?
- If you go back to where they prep the cattle for competition, watch your step.
