All I have to say is that we quit doing business with this distributor years ago and haven't looked back.

"i just wonder how much of a difference the yarn content makes ultimately."

You've got to be kidding! This is about honesty and integrity. We have all been lied to and that is the issue here. Mislabelling any product sold in the US is illegal and for good reason. Would you be happy buying a diamond ring that turned out to be cubic zirconia?

I recommend Naturally Me, 80% merino, 20% cashmere, and because it comes from New Zealand the price is very reasonable. I haven't had it scientifically tested, but I have used it and it feels 100% natural to me. I think it's only with these yarns that are a blend of natural and synthetic that it would be hard to tell *how* much is natural and how much synthetic. Although uh oh... I just checked their website and it's not there - I hope it's not been discontinued! It's still available in various places around the web though, just not at the fantastic price I first bought it for (cheaper than cashmerino it was)

Helena: what fiber allergy are you guarding against? The yarn also contains wool, and was always labelled as being more than half wool.

And... if you've been using it all this time and your kids haven't had a reaction, then maybe the yarn you have doesn't contain the allergen you're concerned about, or at least does not contain enough of the allergen to cause a noticeable reaction? You could try another merino wool/acrylic microfiber blend, and see if it causes a reaction. Or, you could seek out Cascade Yarns Cash Vero (which is their version of the Cashmerino yarn, released after the 2006 blowup about this issue).

i just wonder how much of a difference the yarn content makes ultimately. if it feels good to knit with, i'd even take acrylic. who cares whether the cashmere is in there or not? the yarn is great with/without if it's your cuppa tea. if you don't like DB yarns, you're not gonna like 'em with or without cashmere. and the price differential is insignificant. it's not like Jade Sapphire or Lobster Pot. it's a smidge of cashmere at best, and a corresponding smidge of the price you pay. was anyone really buying DB cashmerino for it's cashmere content? c'mon. seriously.

as for the yarn shop suing KFI, a lot of LYSs seem to hate KFI which says more about the distributor's business practices and the frustrations of the LYSO/small biz person than the yarn in question. It's a loss to the shop and to the knitter ultimately as they cannot stock what customers want and continue to buy (including the wide range of yarns carried by KFI). KFI loses nothing: they are a big company with deep pockets and many lawsuits in the dust and another hungry eager yarn shop just around the corner.

I know the person that Debbie Bliss was with the day she found out about her yarn content being questioned. That person assures me that she was not prepared for this accusation nor did she dismiss it. She was very distraut and upset. I wonder really what the whole deal is about, retailer ticked off or competetor not able to keep up. For some reason the Debbie Bliss is still flying off the shelves and KfI is still shipping tons of it. It can\'t be all bad.
