E-mail from Alice Starmore to "interested knitters" in May 2000

I have no idea where (e.g., to what mailing lists) this was distributed; I only received a copy

From Alice Starmore, to all interested knitters.

Members of the AS support group, plus various yarn store owners have in the past few weeks informed me that
various stories are circulating about me and my yarn range. It is my usual policy, in both life and business, to have no truck with rumour. However, in this case some of the stories seem to constitute deliberate misinformation which I feel I should dispel. In order that any interested knitter may know the full situation, I attach the letter that I sent over a month ago to all yarn stores carrying AS yarns: it contains all the salient facts of the situation. I have asked for, but
have not been provided with an updated list of AS stockists, so I extend my regretful apologies to any store owner who has not received my letter directly.

Since that letter was written, I can add that I am in the process of sourcing a new range of AS yarns. However,
please note that with the exception of Scottish Fleet, I am having to completely start again. This obviously takes time, and then there is the time needed to produce new designs, photograph them and print a book. You will note
from my letter to the stores that I am not releasing the book previously scheduled for Fall 2000. THE CHILDREN’S
COLLECTION – co-written with my daughter and just released – was meant to be a small Spring “extra”, but it will now
be my only book this year. In order that knitters may still make the projects it contains, I also attach a list of yarns that can be substituted for my former range. These are as follows–

FOR AS SCOTTISH CAMPION
Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Shetland

FOR AS SCOTTISH HEATHER
Brown Sheep Superwash
Crystal Palace Ashford Tekapo
Harrisville Designs Highland Style
Patons Ballybrae
Reynolds Candide
Schoolhouse Yarns Rangeley Wool

AS BAININ
Cynthia Helene Shepherd Aran
Rowan
Yarns Magpie

AS SCOTTISH FLEET
Berroco Wendy
Guernsey
