Consumerist claims to possess the secret to reversing the fulling process when a wool garment is accidentally shrunk in the wash. Was that winter cap really made out of wool?
Consumerist: blocking to shape, reversing fulling, same thing

Well, I’ve had limited success stretching out felted bags that have shrunk too far by stuffing them with plastic bags, but it’s not quite the same thing. But before I became a knitter, I probably wouldn’t have questioned the idea of “unshrinking” wool. We just have more motivation than most people to be educated about the properties of fiber.
Yeah. Right.
Maybe there’s some previously unknown unshrinking breed of sheep out there…
This person has never truly fulled anything.
Joyce Williams, author of Latvian Dreams, swears that simmering a fulled item in a solution of vinegar and water (50/50) will unfelt the wool. She says she used this method on a lace shawl. I haven’t tried it myself but I consider Joyce a very reliable source of wool-related information.
I posted a comment debunking the idea but it hasn’t shown up on the site yet. I also laughed heartily.
Clearly that person has never done their own laundry.
I’d like to see that action.
I saw that. I just laughed.
