Back from the listserv grave

The play.

That thing is nearly five years old. If I were to write it today, it’d wind up being longer. And it would involve a fiber holy war after the acrylic rug burn remark. And extra quoted posts so that the length of the giant ASCII sig was doubled through line breaks.

And I’d add someone dumping on a second person dumping on a third person for asking a newbie question.

And someone griping about so-called “direct from the mill to you” retailers stealing revenue from bricks-and-mortar shops.

And someone pointing out that while it’s generally easier to ask Google first before asking several thousand other people, in that specific case maybe that wouldn’t be true because the OP can’t spell. (And someone asking what “OP” means.)

And someone complaining about the way the listowner manages the list.

Oh, and some kind of trademark dispute. That’d be funny too.

You forgot the part where it splinters into 3 different lists… ;)

Based on today’s content at knitflame, you’d also need to add someone complaining about what one of the subscribers posted at their blog.

How frighteningly funny and depressing at the same time!

I’d add in a bitchfest between people who give sage knitting advice and the people who advocate that craft cotton is just fine for socks! Oh, the righteousness of the true believer!

  6. I read the whole assuming it was real.

I have to laugh because that pretty much sums up why I don’t really bother with knitting lists anymore.

Well, only Jo will probably get this, but you could also add people making generalizations about the attitudes of knitters from various countries, and then other people calling them bigoted. Because that one is great fun (on a weekly basis).

Oh, and there’s also the one about the TRUE historical roots of (fill in the fiber tradition) and how some people know everything about this and some people are talking out of their arses.

    I gotta shut up now.

Still the best send-up of knitting lists around, even after 5 years.
